The Aloe Vera plant, widely known for its healing properties, is believed to have originated in North Africa and enjoyed wide use among the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks, as well as Native Americans. The lotion fell into obscurity as the World's cultural centre moved towards colder climates in Western Europe that are less hospitable to the Aloe Vera plant.

The herb was used by Native Americans and later, during the late 1960s and early 1970s, as part of the counterculture back-to-nature movement. Like many natural medicinal products, Aloe Vera has never won widespread acceptance among the mainstream medical community. Yet today, it is used widely in shampoos and conditioners, creams, juices and reducing herb capsules, all of which may be used to enhance botanical wraps.
